Review and reflection
Also with the choreography now complete I have looked again at the Learning objectives. I believe I have met LO1 by continuing to research and incorporate my chosen practitioner's method and style into my choreography. In particular my final section where I dance to a piece of music called Cycle of the Sound. I have used McGregor's Chroma and the unstoppable, continuous rhythm and overwhelming sensation to give my piece direction and intention. Knowing that the audience interpretation may differ to my intention, as in McGregor's piece where the audience are mesmerised by movement, rather than storyline.
I also believe I have met LO2 by continually evaluating and refining my choreographic journey. I believe my choreography has an independent and creative voice and that I have enforced my decisions and changes with clear explanation and reasoning.
I have also met LO3 with my solo performance now complete. I have used a range of sources, including Wayne McGregor's methods and choreography to inform how I develop my own movement. I have used the Butterfly Effect and Lorenz Attractor as stimuli for storyline and motif development, both the factual information I have researched and visual stimuli. My music choices have also been an influence on the dynamics of my piece as a whole, creating the undulating rhythm from my initial stimuli of a butterfly in motion.
Overall, the main change I have made as a result of reviewing my piece has been made as a result of my peer feedback and not wanting my piece to be predictable. Going back to the original idea and definition of chaos as something that is unable to predict the future. I think my piece becomes more successful because of the feedback sessions in a similar way to creating my reflective table as when I am constructive in my reflection, not critical it has proved more beneficial to my creative process. I have been able to develop my choreography to become more unpredictable, which was my initial aim, wanting to leave the audience wanting more.
Now that I am about to perform my solo, I must remember to perform and use my face to help enhance emotion. I also need to project my movements and show elongation of moves, tension and release, by using my breath to help embrace the movement quality and to captivate the audience, ensuring my performance is not so internal that the emotion is not clear.
